Harrison is Safer Thanks to $10,144 Grant Harrison, NY (Oct. 29, 2014) – Residents of Harrison will be safer thanks to a $10,144 grant to the Harrison Fire Department. Awarded by HUB International Northeast and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, the grant will fund the purchase of new fire hoses and hand tools to be carried on fire apparatus. “These funds, in essence, are going to greatly enhance our department’s ability to provide an effective water supply to our crews battling various types of fires,” said Harrison Fire Department Fire Chief John Masciola, Jr. “Our current hose is old and outdated while the new hose is stronger and more reliable. This brings safety to both our crews and citizens.” Harrison Fire Department officials, firefighters and executives and employees from HUB International Northeast and Fireman’s Fund came together for a special public event where the grant was presented. The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. Founded in 1863 with a social mission to support the fire service, Fireman’s Fund today awards grants to fire service organizations for life-saving equipment, firefighter training and community education programs. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has awarded grants to more than 2,100 different organizations totaling more than $31 million -- including nearly $2 million in New York. Independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like HUB International Northeast, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service. Through this program, Hub International Limited has directed more than $394,000 in grants to fire departments nationwide. “Budget restraints often make it difficult for fire departments to go out and purchase all the new equipment they need,” said Senior Vice President Jeff Rubin, of HUB International Northeast. “This grant money will allow Harrison firefighters to work with safe and effective equipment, and we’re hopeful it will make a difference.”
